Bad Times At The El Royale Review

Bad Times At The El Royale Review

I just finished watching the movie, Bad Times At The El Royale and wanted to share my immediate thoughts on the movie. The movie has been out for quite some time now but, when I watched the trailer months ago it did not grab my attention. After the movie had came out I did not hear any reviews on the movie at all. Until I went searching for movies to watch and it always came up. So, I literally just finished watching the movie almost 15 minutes ago and surprisingly I enjoyed it. This movie is definitely not going to be one of my favorite movies and I would not even recommend this movie. The movie was essentially all over the place in plot of the movie. While watching the movie I could not get a clear idea as to what the movie is actually about. The story was just not strong enough but the plot twists are what made me stay and continue to watch. I love movies that are unpredictable and with this movie, I could not at all predict what was going to happen next so for that part I thoroughly enjoyed. The acting was okay for the most part. Me being a big Thor fan I was not impressed with Chris Hemsworth acting, it was actually mediocre. Yes, his body is amazing and the reason many watched but his accent went in and out the whole movie. He was not a convincing villain. I did like the concept of the hotel is that you can either room in California/ or Nevada. Coming to the realization just now this movie is not a good movie at all. While writing this I realized I have wasted two hours watching a movie with no plot, a small climax, and A stupid ending. The only things that were good were the visuals, the feels, and the unpredictability of the movie. If had to explain this movie to someone I could not because I honestly can not tell what I just watched. The ending was very um.. not good too.

summary of the movie: The El Royale is run-down hotel that sits on the border between California and Nevada. It soon becomes a seedy battleground when seven strangers — a cleric, a soul singer, a traveling salesman, two sisters, the manager and the mysterious Billy Lee — converge on a fateful night for one last shot at¬†redemption before everything goes wrong.

My Review:

I enjoyed this movie.  Certain parts of the movies are extremely emotional. There are trigger warning in the movie. I do believe this is a movie that everyone should see the display of police brutality was done perfectly. The aftermath of police brutality and witnessing death was also done perfectly. The acting could have been better from certain actors.  I also did not like the ending of the movie. but, I do agree with the story of the movie and I think the message of the movie will hit home for a lot of black families. overall, it is a decent movie but, for some reason, I  was expecting more.

Nappily Ever After Review

Nappily Ever After Review

Violet Jones (Sanaa Lathan) has a seemingly perfect life — a high-powered job, an eligible doctor boyfriend and a meticulously maintained, flawless coiffure. But after a life-changing event doesn’t go according to her plan, and a hair-raising incident at the hairdresser, her life begins to unravel. Eventually, Violet realizes that she was living the life she thought she was supposed to live, not the one she really wanted. (Via Rotten Tomatoes)

My Review:¬† This was a movie I thoroughly¬†enjoyed all the way through. The message was important and very relatable for all black women. All women would enjoy this movie also but, black women journey with¬†their hair will draw them more to this movie. I think the acting was ‘okay’ by the cast. I¬†love that the main¬†characters are black or a minority. I love that the message of this movie correlates to what¬†little and adult black women have to go through with¬†their hair. This movie plays on¬†a lot of¬†stereotypes of the black women about¬†their hair. I think the storyline should have been a¬†little stronger. There was no climax the movie sort of just flowed through the whole time. It was sort of¬†predictable. I¬†hated the ending because it was extremely subpar. All In¬†All, I am not necessarily¬†sure that¬†I would¬†recommend this movie because it¬†did not exceed my expectations at all. but, if you’re bored and need something to watch this can be it!

* If you did watch the movie, leave in the comments if you liked it or not!

Sierra Burgess Is A Big Loser (SPOILER-FREE)

Sierra Burgess Is A Big Loser (SPOILER-FREE)

SIERRA BURGESS IS A LOSER is a modern Rom-com retelling of the Cyrano de Bergerac story set in high school. The story centers on Sierra (Shannon Purser), an intelligent teen who does not fall into the shallow definition of high school pretty but, in a case of mistaken identity that results in unexpected romance, must team with the popular girl (Kristine Froseth) in order to win her crush. Also starring RJ Cyler, Noah Centineo, Chrissy Metz and Lea Thompson. (Via Rotten Tomatoes)

My Review: I watched this movie last night and I thought it was really good. It‚Äôs one of Netflix‚Äôs new romantic comedy movies. A lot of the scenes were cringe-worthy I even got second-hand awkwardness. The story/script is not perfect but it kept me intrigued all the way through. I did see a lot of negative reviews about this movie but, my personal opinion is that it is better than ‚ÄúThe Kissing Booth‚ÄĚ and ‚ÄúTo All The Boys I‚Äôve Loved Before‚ÄĚ two other New Netflix teen romantic comedies that are overly hyped. This movie is actually very relatable and hits on the insecurities that many women go through and have. The cast was okay. I think the main character Sierra/Shannon Purser is extremely talented and carried the whole movie. Every movie is not perfect and it was definitely some quirks in this movie that should have been straightened out. But in hindsight, I highly recommend watching this movie because it was something I completely enjoyed.
