5 Denzel Washington Movies You Need to SEE!

Denzel Washington is my favorite actor of all time. Any movie he is in is a MUST-WATCH! But the list below is movies of his I highly recommend and enjoyed. So enjoy!

The Great Debaters

Poet and professor Melvin B. Tolson (Denzel Washington) teaches at the predominately black Wiley College in 1935 Texas. He decides to start a debate team, something nearly unheard of at a black college. While at first, he butts heads with the influential father (Forest Whitaker) of one of his best debates, eventually he is able to form a team of strong-minded, intelligent young students, and they become the first black debate team to challenge Harvard’s prestigious debate champions.

He Got Game

Jake Shuttleworth (Denzel Washington) has spent the last six years in prison after accidentally killing his wife during a violent domestic dispute, leaving his son, star basketball prospect Jesus Shuttleworth (Ray Allen), to fend for himself. One day, the prison warden (Ned Beatty) approaches Jake with an unusual offer: He’ll be given a week of parole to convince Jesus to attend the governor’s alma mater, with the promise of a shortened sentence if he succeeds.

Bonus: the star of this movie is my 2nd favorite basketball player everybody, Ray Allen

Fences

Troy Maxson (Denzel Washington) makes his living as a sanitation worker in 1950s Pittsburgh. Maxson once dreamed of becoming a professional baseball player but was deemed too old when the major leagues began admitting black athletes. Bitter over his missed opportunity, Troy creates further tension in his family when he squashes his son’s (Jovan Adepo) chance to meet a college football recruiter.

Training Day

Police drama about a veteran officer who escorts a rookie on his first day with the LAPD’s tough inner-city narcotics unit. “Training Day” is a blistering action drama that asks the audience to decide what is necessary, what is heroic and what crosses the line in the harrowing gray zone of fighting urban crime. Does law-abiding law enforcement come at the expense of justice and public safety? If so, do we demand safe streets at any cost?

IT SHOULD BE A CRIME TO BE THIS FINE.

Remember The Titans

In Virginia, high school football is a way of life, an institution revered, each game celebrated more lavishly than Christmas, each playoff distinguished more grandly than any national holiday. And with such recognition, comes powerful emotions. In 1971 high school football was everything to the people of Alexandria. But when the local school board was forced to integrate an all-black school with an all-white school, the very foundation of football’s great tradition was put to the test.

  1. You just can’t beat Denzel. He is the picture of class and is always worth watching. Even if the material isn’t the best he is always good. Really glad you included Fences. He and Viola Davis have a mesmerizing chemistry. I know a lot of people weren’t crazy about it but I really went for Roman J. Israel too.
